Nach gut 9 Monaten Road-Tripping durch die USA und Mexiko sind wir Mitte M\u00e4rz 2018 zur\u00fcck im Bananatree in the Mango Village.<\/div>
Unser H\u00e4uschen hatte bereits erste G\u00e4ste \u00fcber Airbnb, die von Karina und Alejo grossz\u00fcgig betreut wurden. Die Allermeisten waren begeistert von ihrem Aufenthalt im Bananatree. Nur weil\u00a0es manchmal etwas laut wurde bei den Nachbarn oder jemand sich die H\u00e4hne und H\u00fchner in der Umgebung nicht gewohnt war, gab es auch ein paar negative Aspekte.<\/div>
Aber die meisten schrieben, sie w\u00fcrden wieder kommen. So wie wir. Wie wir uns freuen, wieder zur\u00fcck „Zuhause“ zu sein!<\/div>

2. April<\/h4><\/div>
Palomino w\u00e4chst schnell. Jeden Monat ein neues Restaurant oder eine neue Herberge. \u00dcberall wird gebaut.<\/div>
Doch hier in Divino Ni\u00f1o, in unserer Nachbarschaft, nehmen wir davon keine Notiz. Dorfleben, wie es schon immer war.<\/div>
Manchmal sch\u00f6n ruhig, V\u00f6gel, H\u00e4hne, Nachbarn, die aufwachen (neulich haben wir sogar Br\u00fcllaffen geh\u00f6rt – zum ersten Mal \u00fcberhaupt hier).<\/div>
Manchmal auch laut und l\u00e4rmend. Die Einwohner von Divino Ni\u00f1o lieben es unverst\u00e4ndlicherweise, die Lautst\u00e4rke ihrer Lautsprecher voll aufzudrehen und die ganze Nacht lang ihre Vallenato-Musik zu spielen.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Die schneebedeckte Sierra Nevada, der Palomino-Fluss, der ins Meer m\u00fcndet, ein Schmelztiegel der Kulturen, die in diesem kleinen Ort zusammenkommen: indigene Kogis, einheimische Coste\u00f1os, Hippie-Artesanos, alternativ lebende Menschen und Touristen aus aller Welt.<\/div>

Wir sind vor zwei Wochen in Palomino angekommen und von Freunden und neuen Bekannten zuhause willkommen geheissen worden.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Unterdessen haben wir viel Brot und Zopf gebacken – f\u00fcr uns und zum Verkauf (vor allem Zopf kommt bei allen sehr gut an). Wir haben Dinge repariert, neue Pflanzen angepflanzt, \u00fcber Palomino diskutiert und Ausfl\u00fcge geplant.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gestern und heute haben wir alle B\u00f6den und Pfosten gegen Ungeziefer gesprayt, damit Bananatree etwas l\u00e4nger lebt.<\/div>
N\u00e4chste Woche sollten wir dann endlich das zweite Schlafzimmer beginnen.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Nebenbei sind immer Kleinigkeiten zu erledigen: Garten, hier und da etwas reparieren. Und nat\u00fcrlich unser „Brot-Business“ mit unserem Freund Diego. Durch ihn haben wir schon viele interessante Leute kennen lernen d\u00fcrfen, wie die Holl\u00e4nder Laila und Kaspar mit ihrem zweij\u00e4hrigen Kind Moos, die seit langem mir ihrem Camper durch S\u00fcdamerika reisen und – wie es vielen passiert – in Palomino h\u00e4ngen geblieben sind.<\/div>
So haben wir trotz viel Arbeit und Vallenato-L\u00e4rm von nebenan eine blendende Zeit.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gestern begann der erste, lang ersehnte Regen. Der ganze Staub wird von den Bl\u00e4ttern und Hausd\u00e4chern gewaschen. Die fast unertr\u00e4gliche Hitze am Mittag ist wie vergessen. Ich muss mir abends sogar ein Shirt \u00fcberziehen!<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Seit unsere alte Nachbarin Maria weg ist, hat sich Jorges Familie um uns ausgebreitet. Wir erinnern uns: Jorge ist der Zimmerann nebenan, der uns das Land verkauft und das Eingangstor hergestellt hat.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Es ist also nicht ruhiger geworden. Zwar wird weniger geflucht, seit die alte Maria weg ist (sie haben sie zu ihrer Tochter in der Stadt abgeschoben), zum Ausgleich schreien aber jedes Jahr mehr Kinder. Und zumindest eine von Jorges T\u00f6chter ist wieder schwanger.<\/div>

Mal \u00fcberlegen: Da sind Jorge und seine Frau Tomasa, dann die T\u00f6chter (etwa vier von ihnen haben jeweils eigene Babys), die von unter zehn Jahre bis – was weiss ich – knapp dreissing Jahre alt sind, Jes\u00fas (der einzige Sohn) und noch zwei, drei Schwiegers\u00f6hne, die neuerdings auch hier wohnen. Das macht ungef\u00e4hr, hmm, 15 Nasen, die gleich nebenan wohnen; auf dem selben Raum, wie wir zwei.<\/div>

Sie boten uns bereits Marias Land zum Kauf an. 45 Millionen (ca. 15 tausend Dollar) f\u00fcr ein halb so grosses St\u00fcck Land, wie das, welches wir vor vier Jahren f\u00fcr umgerechnet 4 tausend Dollar kauften. Wieviel wir in Palomino investieren wollen, frage ich mich immer mal wieder.<\/div>
So toll ist der Ort dann auch nicht. Obwohl wir hier viele gute Freunde haben und dieser Fleck Erde zweifelsohne seine Magie hat.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Diese magische Kraft ist nicht immer gleich ersichtlich. Anfangs bemerkt man vielleicht erstmal den L\u00e4rm und die manchmal nervt\u00f6tende Lethargie gewisser Einwohner Palominos. Es braucht etwas Geduld und Gelassenheit, innere Ruhe, um alles auf sich wirken zu lassen. Und schon bleibt man f\u00fcr Monate hier h\u00e4ngen, wie wir und die Holl\u00e4nder zum Beispiel.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Seraina und ich nennen das, den „Palomino-Schritt annehmen“ oder den „Palomino-Gang einlegen“. Das dauert oft eine oder zwei Wochen, bis man das kann. Erst dann h\u00f6rt man auf, die Strasse entlang zu hetzen, um von A nach B zu kommen. Erst dann, wenn man sich an den Palomino-Lifestyle gew\u00f6hnt hat, beginnt man entspannt zu flanieren und den Weg zu geniessen. Wir lieben es beide, unser eigenes, selbstgebautes Zuhause zu haben, wo man tun und lassen kann, was man will. Viele Regeln gibt es in Palomino ohnehin nicht. Wir sind der hochgepriesenen Freiheit so nahe, wie es nur m\u00f6glich ist.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Und die Locals empfangen die Gringos mit offenen Armen. Selten h\u00f6rt man etwas Schlechtes \u00fcber die reichen Ausl\u00e4nder sagen, die sich hier niederlassen oder ein Hotel bauen. Immerhin heisst das Arbeit f\u00fcr die Lokalbev\u00f6lkerung. Profitieren tun sie zwar nur wenig.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

10. Mai – Letzter Tag in Palomino<\/h4>
Alles gemacht, fast alles aufger\u00e4umt und ready to leave. Fertig werden wir hier nie. Immer sehe ich wieder etwas, das noch getan werden k\u00f6nnte.<\/div>

Gestern schmiessen wir unsere Abschiedsparty. Der Pizza-Abend war ein voller Erfolg. Langsam haben wir den Dreh raus mit dem Lehmofen. Ein wenig Glut reicht noch, nachdem er richtig eingeheizt wurde (2, 3 Stunden lang), um eine sch\u00f6n knusprige und super leckere Pizza zu erhalten.<\/div>

El lugar de Simon y Seraina es increible! Tuvimos una estancia muy linda, la casa tiene una atmosfera encantadora, una energia muy positiva, bonitos detalles y una vista maravillosa hacia la sierra. Es una casa que tiene todo lo que se pueda necesitar, la cocina super equipada con horno y tambien horno de barro para hacer buenas pizzas! We arrived later than anticipated from Tayrona and because we had been without WIFI the few days prior we hadn’t communicated our ETA to Karina. She was kind enough to come at the last minute to introduce herself and put up mosquito nets for us. She is very friendly and she runs a great dog & cat rescue program called Palomino Animal Soul. I highly recommend going on the dog picnic at the beach that she offers if you want to do something unique while also supporting a worthy cause. Bannanatree is a great place to stay. The yard is shaded by banana trees and the 2nd floor is an particularly nice for relaxing. I especially liked that it is right in the community, which is very friendly, rather than on a street of hostels. It’s just a short walk to the main street of restaurants, as well as a nice walk to the beach.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Lo positivo, la buena onda de Karina y Alejo y la ayuda que da este alojamiento a su refugio de perritos, el sitio es pet friendly y puedes cocinar, tiene buenos espacios y ha tratado de construir un lugar contagiado de su magia. Lo negativo mucho ruido de d\u00eda y de noche de parte de los vecinos. La caba\u00f1a est\u00e1 ubicada un poco lejos de la zona de hostales, para ser m\u00e1s exactos est\u00e1 ubicada dentro de la comunidad en un barrio vulnerable. This was such an amazing space, much quieter than the rest of the town, as with everywhere i’ve been in colombia people are just generally noisy, this is much quieter than most places ive stayed, only complaint is the time confused local cockerels that start their daily shouting around 2 am. Will most certainly stay here again when i next visit colombia. Theres ever a beer shop next door and atleast 4 shops within 2mins walk. Banana is a magical place, you can tell that a lot of hard work, dedication and love was put into building it. The house will drag you in with its charm for sure. The location is amazing because it’s in the middle of palomino, among the local population. It’s about 20 minutes to the beach and to where all the popular hostels are located. If you’d rather be surrounded by other travelers instead of by local residents, then maybe Banana is not the place for you. Karina and Alejo are very kind, they will give you recommendations of what to do in Palomino and they also do amazing activities themselves, like a walking beach tour and picnic with rescue dogs that they take care of.<\/div>

Clay oven can work great but you need to make sure to ask for enough le\u00f1a (fire wood) and coal. We didn’t have enough so it didn’t get hot enough. Just in case there’s a regular oven.<\/div>

The family that lives next door sells beer and other items, they’re very nice honest warm people so make sure to meet them and they’ll gladly help you out if you need something. Nando, the young teen who lives with them will help you ran errands in case you need something and don’t want to walk all the way back to a store. Just make sure to tip him and get to know him a little bit, he has some great stories to tell.<\/div>

This place is amazing. It really feels like a tree house. It is basically constructed out of bamboo and wood, on a piece of property that is really a small banana garden. The amenities are very basic, but this is part of the experience and should be that way. The bathroom\/shower space is a work of art and is fun to wake up to. Banana tree is great. It was really quirky and it’s clear a lot of effort has gone in to designing and building this little coastal retreat. Karina and her partner were really helpful and communicative before we arrived and I’m sure their up and coming restaurant business is going to be hugely successful in the future and we’re pleased to have been some of their first customers. The place was clean and comfortable. It’s in the village so close to the main road which has restaurants, shops and bars, plus main bus routes. It’s about 20minutes walk from the beach which means you’re away from the tourist traps, however, might get woken by cockerels, and the locals get up with the sunrise so be prepared for early starts. This was great for us, because the skies are bluest in the mornings and you can walk down to the beach and see the peaks of sierra Nevada which is incredible. Top tip from Karina: Buy the bug soap from the local shops called nopikex, we managed 4 nights with minimal mosquito damage! There is no WiFi, and the water in the village is supplied on a weekly basis, so once you’re out, that’s it – i.e. If you’re into ecotourism and want a bit of time ‚off-grid‘ this is definitely the place to be. Really relaxed and chilled. We loved it and would stay again in a flash.<\/div>

I highly recommend both Palomino and the Banana Tree for an extended visit. I wish I could have stayed longer than a week.
